Library Funding is on the Primary Ballot August 6th

July 6, 2024

Overview: Proposal L: Library Operating Millage Renewal

Funding for Detroit Public Library is on the ballot August 6th.

  • Ballot Proposal L is a renewal of funding, NOT an increase.
  • 85% to 90% of Detroit Public Library system funding comes from this millage that must be renewed every 10 years.
  • These funds are used to operate the main library, 21 branches and mobile library. The library maintains its own buildings, which is costly.
  • Historically, Detroiters have supported library millages.
