Budget Hearings, Week 2

Budget Hearings, Week 2

Last week, Detroit City Council began their annual budget hearings. While DPP had advised residents to take action and engage in this process we were disappointed in the reduction of time allotted for public comments to 1 minute.

While we recognize time constraints are needed to keep to the schedule, the manner in which some Council Members received public comments, from their constituents, was also disrespectful.

Due to this, while we continue to share the information needed to attend the hearings and participate, we are also asking residents to reach out to Council Members directly and advocate for what they want to see in the budget. (Contact info for Council Members below)

During the last week DPP members and supporters made comment on Transit, Housing Revitalization Department and the CRIO, the Civil Rights, Inclusion and Opportunity department budgets.

Detroit People’s Platform will be preparing and presenting statements on the Library, General Services and other departments this week.
