Fisher Body Plant 21 Environmental Protections and Monitoring

June 30, 2022

Detroit People's Platform and Equitable Detroit Coalition, the city wide CBA coalition, have been monitoring the Community Benefits process for the Fisher Body Lofts.

All of these new developments come with environmental impacts.

Examples include Stellantis, Amazon’s State Fairgrounds Development and the AMC Headquarters.

Detroit - Members of the Fisher Body Neighborhood Advisory Council (NAC) advocated for increased environmental protections and monitoring during and after construction. In negotiations with the NAC, the developer agreed to address these environmental concerns but it would appear they have not been integrated into the plan moving toward City Council.

Research shows that Black communities are at increased risk for negative health conditions related to pollution. The failure to address these concerns is an aspect of environmental racism and another example of the lack of care and concern for Detroiters who are facing these issues.

Call Director Bryant of the Planning and Development Department - Tell him Detroiters have a right to clean air during and after these development projects. Insist that the environmental protections agreed to with the developer and the Fisher Body project NAC are included in the final CBA agreement.
