Statement from DPP's Transit Justice Team on the Future of Health

Statement submitted through public comment and email to the Neighborhood Advisory Council on November 1, 2023.

This project will disrupt the Dexter Bus Line which is a major form of transportation for Black essential bus riders across the city of Detroit. The Dexter Bus is one of the most important routes because it runs 24 hours and moves Detroiters across the city in order to access jobs, school, and health care, like Henry Ford Hospital.

Most often during these major construction projects bus stops are moved and buses are often rerouted resulting in extended wait times and distance for our riders to walk and navigate.

The transit justice team is calling on the Neighborhood Advisory Council to address these disruptions by ensuring the developer will provide adequate and accessible bus shelters to be constructed when new and temporary transit stops are located; contributing to a ride share fund which may be used to reduce the financial burden on low income essential riders who are forced to use ride share in place of transit.
